New Delhi: Traffic movement across several parts of New Delhi will face disruptions on Sunday due to a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit, scheduled
from September 11 to 13, Delhi Police said on Saturday.
The rehearsal will start at 9 am and continue until 10 pm. More than 35 roads and several diversion points will remain affected during this period. Police have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and use the Delhi Metro wherever possible.
Roads likely to be affected
The affected roads include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Motilal Nehru Marg and Dr Zakir Hussain Marg.
Traffic may also face restrictions on Brigadier Hoshiarpur Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover and Niti Marg. Other affected stretches include Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
Bhairon Road, Mandi House, Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg will also face traffic disruptions.
Diversions and restrictions
Diversions will take place at Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Panchkuian Road, Minto Road and Barakhamba Road.
Commuters travelling from Tilak Marg towards Connaught Place should use Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Sikandra Road. Traffic movement on Mathura Road and Tilak Marg will remain prohibited during the rehearsal.
Commercial vehicles will not be allowed beyond the ITO crossing. Police have advised their drivers to use IP Marg, DDU Marg and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.
Traffic from Patel Chowk towards Sansad Marg will also remain prohibited. However, Ashoka Road will stay open.
Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station should follow the route through ISBT Kashmere Gate, Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Marg and Panchkuian Road.
For Old Delhi Railway Station, commuters should travel through ISBT Kashmere Gate, Ring Road, Hanuman Mandir and SP Mukherjee Marg.
Those heading to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station should take the AIIMS, Ring Road, Ashram Chowk and Mathura Road route.
Passengers travelling to Indira Gandhi International Airport can use Ring Road, AIIMS, Moti Bagh, Shankar Vihar Flyover, NH-48 and Mahipalpur Flyover.
Delhi Police urged commuters to avoid the affected roads, leave early and use public transport to reduce inconvenience.
