Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a strong warning to Iranian authorities, saying Washington would respond forcefully if protesters
are executed amid continuing unrest across Iran. His remarks came in response to reports suggesting that hangings of detained protestors could begin as early as Wednesday.
In an interview with CBS News, Trump said the United States would take “very strong action” should Iran carry out executions. When asked about his objectives, he replied, “The end game is to win,” adding that he likes winning.
The comments were made while Trump was in Michigan, where he visited a manufacturing facility and delivered a speech focused on the US economy. During his address, he reiterated a message he had earlier shared on social media, assuring Iranian protesters that “help is on its way.”
Trump acknowledged that the exact scale of the violence in Iran remains uncertain. “I hear numbers — look, one death is too much — but I hear much lower numbers, and then I hear much higher numbers,” he said.
Later, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he was awaiting a detailed intelligence briefing on the situation. He indicated that preliminary information pointed to significant bloodshed but stressed that the administration would respond based on verified facts. “I’ll know within 20 minutes – and we’ll act accordingly,” he said.
“We don’t want to see what’s happening in Iran happen. And you know, if they want to have protests, that’s one thing, when they start killing thousands of people, and now you’re telling me about hanging — we’ll see how that works out for them. It’s not going to work out good,” the US President warned.
