US President Donald Trump has described the strategically important Strait of Hormuz as “an American territory” as the US maintains a military blockade
targeting Iranian shipping and ports.
Speaking at a campaign event in South Carolina on Friday, Trump questioned whether the US had achieved victory in its conflict with Iran and referred to the waterway as American territory.
“We don’t even know if we won, because I view the Strait of Hormuz as an American territory right now,” Trump said.
