New Delhi: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and dust storms swept across Delhi-NCR on Saturday, bringing a sudden change in weather and providing
relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region for days. Dark clouds covered the skies over Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram as rain lashed several areas during the afternoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and rainfall across Delhi-NCR for both Saturday and Sunday. The weather department said the rain is likely to continue over the weekend, helping bring down temperatures further.
The sudden spell of rain disrupted normal life in several parts of the National Capital Region. Traffic movement slowed considerably, with waterlogging and poor visibility leading to congestion on major roads. In Delhi, strong winds uprooted trees in several localities, damaging parked vehicles and causing traffic snarls. Residents and passers-by were seen helping people trapped inside vehicles struck by fallen trees.
The rainfall has significantly improved weather conditions across the region. After enduring days of scorching temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius in many areas, residents experienced much-needed relief as cooler conditions prevailed.
According to weather officials, temperatures have already dropped by nearly 9 degrees Celsius over the past three days. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may fall to 25 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall activity that began on Thursday is expected to persist until Sunday, offering continued respite from the summer heat and improving overall weather conditions across Delhi-NCR.
