Kolkata: Petrol and diesel prices in the country have risen once again on Friday for the fourth time in 10 days. In the process, the price of petrol has
gone above Rs 100 per litre in most states of the country. However, there are places in the country where petrol is still available at below Rs 90 a litre. The cheapest petrol is available in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the price is Rs 88.66 per liter. The fuel is most expensive in the state of Andhra Pradesh where it is selling at Rs 117.75 per litre. Chittoor, Nellore, and Kakinada are among the cities with the most expensive petrol in the country. The price of petrol and diesel varies from state to state due to different taxes — VAT or Value Added Tax— levied by state governments.

There are only three regions in India where petrol is being sold for less than Rs 100 per litre. The cheapest petrol is available in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where it is selling at Rs 88.66 per litre. It is the second cheapest in Arunachal Pradesh and the price is Rs 97.99 per litre. Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu offers the next cheapest petrol, where the cost is Rs 99.50 per litre.
Petrol is the most expensive here
If you go to Andhra Pradesh, you will get the most expensive petrol in the country. The cost: Rs 117.75 per litre. The second most expensive petrol is in Telangana where the price is Rs 115.73 per litre. In the third place in this list is Kerala, where it costs Rs 115.49 per litre. Fuel prices remain the highest in these states due to a high state VAT and local levies. The price of petrol has crossed past the Rs 110 per litre mark in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Sikkim, and Karnataka. The price of petrol is between Rs 105 and Rs 110 per litre in Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Punjab.
Cities where petrol is most expensive
The most expensive petrol in India is found in Chittoor, where the price is Rs 118.34 per litre. The other cities in the list of most expensive petrol are Nellore with Rs 118.14, Kakinada with Rs 118.10, Kurnool aith Rs 117.95 and Machilipatnam with Rs 117.94 per liter. The Andhra Pradesh goevrnment charges 31% VAT + Rs 4/litre plus Rs 1/litre Road Development Cess on petrol.
