The 15-year-old comfortably won the duel against one of the best fast bowlers in the world, shutting down any doubts over his ability. While Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach stood out, Bumrah’s struggles against the teenage sensation highlighted a bigger problem for the Mumbai Indians.
Bumrah went wicketless for a third straight game as the Mumbai Indians slumped to a 27-run defeat in a rain-curtailed match against the Rajasthan Royals. RR batters dominated the proceedings in the match, which was reduced to an 11-over-a-side contest due to rain. Bumrah struggled for his rhythm and ended up wicketless despite bowling three overs, the most for MI in the game.

Bumrah has gone wicketless for three matches for the first time in his IPL career, highlighting his impeccable consistency. It is a rare streak for the MI pacer, who has been among the most prolific and consistent bowlers in the league ever since making his debut in 2015.
Bumrah has gone without a wicket in MI’s first three games of IPL 2026. He has so far bowled 11 overs in IPL 2026 and conceded 88 runs while failing to bag a wicket. The pacer has bowled his usual tight lines, but has been dealt with much better by the batters.
Jasprit Bumrah’s form increases MI’s headache
Bumrah’s form has added to the Mumbai Indians’ headache amid their poor start to the season. The five-time champions broke their opening game curse by beating the Kolkata Knight Riders at home in their first game of IPL 2026, however, they have since suffered two defeats in a row and are currently seventh on the points table with two points from three matches.
While their batting is yet to click as a unit, Bumrah’s dismal run has added to their woes. The 32-year-old has been one of the best bowlers in the IPL over the years, but has not necessarily been among the highest wicket-takers in the league, as Opposition batters often exercise extra caution while facing him.
The batters often try to play out his overs, trying not to throw their wickets away thanks to his control, precision and variations. However, the sheer lack of wickets this season for their premier pacer can be alarming for the Mumbai Indians, who are bidding to win a record sixth IPL title.
His struggles have contributed to MI’s poor start to the season as they remain in the bottom half of the table. Bumrah will be looking to open his account and end to the unwanted streak when they take on the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their next game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12.
