New Delhi: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran just had 2 options – “Deal or Total Surrender”. In a social media post on Truth Social,
he described the Iranian leadership as ” unbelievably duplicitous”. The US leader accused Iran of having double standards. He said that on the one hand they had been “begging” for talks and on the other they were openly and proudly proclaiming that there have been no discussions with the US.
Trump’s post on Truth Social
Trump said that Iran had been saying that they were dealing with Oman. He also accused them of continuously proclaiming that “Strait of Hormuz will be operated powerfully by them.” He also claimed that the talks were meant to find a solution to a problem that Iran had caused, for decades.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “They then go on to give their usual blather in saying, the Strait of Hormuz will be operated powerfully by them, when it is already completely controlled by the United States Navy and our “Blockade” or, as some say, “The United States Wall of Steel!” Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished.”
Trump once again reiterated in his post that he would never allow Iran to have a “nuclear weapon.” He said, “Whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused for decades.”
Trump made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz would continue to be controlled by the US, even if a deal is reached with Iran and war is over. This fresh attack on Iran by Trump, came just a day after he announced that he was holding back from fresh strikes on the country. The decision, said Trump had been reached on a request by Gulf allies Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
On Sunday, Trump had said that after a request from the leaders of the Gulf countries and Iranian officials, he decided to “give diplomacy a chance.”
He further talked about fresh talks with Iran, which he claimed would begin on Monday. He said, “Now what we’re doing is we’re talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It begins tomorrow (Monday) afternoon.” He however did not clarify who would talk to Iran on America’s behalf.
Iran however has denied any fresh talks with the US. They said that they are currently in negotiations, only with Oman. These negotiations focus on arranging a temporary safe navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz.
