Stansstad: The first round of the US-Iran talks concluded in Switzerland on Monday, hours after it began with a shaky note. Following President Donald
Trump’s latest threat to Tehran. During negotiations, the US has reportedly released some frozen assets, while oil and petrochemical exports have been waived.
Sharing a message on X after the talks, Iranian Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote, “Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end the Lebanon War. Oil and petrochemical exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets are released, and a major reconstruction & development plan is launched for Iran. He also called “Lebanon deconfliction cell” the first real test.
Joint statement on talks released
Meanwhile, the joint statement released after the talks said, “The first session of high-level talks under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has concluded in Burgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of representatives from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States of America, and the two mediating parties, the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

“Building on the MoU, the parties have agreed to the establishment of a High-Level Committee, which will provide political oversight on the mediation. Chief negotiators will report regularly to the High-Level Committee and lead working groups focused on nuclear, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure the effective implementation of the MoU, and on other matters,” it added, while maintaining that the talks were held in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
Committee agreed on a roadmap towards the final deal
The joint statement further said, “The High-Level Committee has agreed upon a roadmap towards reaching a final deal within 60 days, laying the foundation for the immediate commencement of further technical talks. In addition, a communication line between the parties has been formed to avoid incidents and miscommunication with the aim of safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
The joint statement further said that both sides have agreed on the creation of a de-confliction cell between the parties, the Lebanese Republic, and facilitated by the Mediators “ to ensure termination of military operations in Lebanon as per the MoU”.
