New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation at 7 pm today, August 14, on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day. The annual presidential
address forms an important part of the country’s Independence Day celebrations. The President is expected to speak about India’s achievements, current challenges and goals for the future.
Nationwide broadcast planned
Akashvani, also known as All India Radio, will broadcast the address across its entire national network. All Doordarshan channels will also telecast the speech live, allowing people across the country to watch it.
The official announcement said the President will first deliver the address in Hindi. The English version will follow.
Doordarshan’s regional channels will broadcast the speech in various regional languages after the Hindi and English versions. Akashvani will air the regional language versions at 9.30 pm through its respective regional networks.

Viewers can watch President Murmu’s address live on Doordarshan channels, DD News and the official YouTube channels of Doordarshan and Akashvani.
The speech will also be available on the News9Live YouTube channel and the official digital platforms of Prasar Bharati and Doordarshan.
Several news websites, social media pages and other digital platforms will stream the official broadcast. Regional Doordarshan channels will carry translated versions after the main address, while regional Akashvani networks will broadcast them from 9.30 pm.
PM Modi’s Red Fort speech
The President’s address will come a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivers his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15.
The Prime Minister traditionally addresses the country after hoisting the national flag at the historic monument. His speech usually focuses on the government’s work, national priorities and plans for the coming years.
This year’s celebrations hold added importance as India marks its 80th Independence Day. The country gained freedom from British rule on August 15, 1947.
Security arrangements and preparations have taken place in the national capital and other parts of the country ahead of the celebrations. Government buildings and major public places have also received special decorations for the occasion.
