New Delhi: Ariana Grande has once again asked Donald Trump’s team to stop using her music after a Team Trump TikTok video featured her song “We Can’t Be
Friends (Wait For Your Love)”. The video posted on Thursday August 20 showed Trump walking towards a podium at a rally while using lyrics from Grande’s song as part of a viral trend. The video also included the statement that men cannot have babies and should not compete in women’s sports.
Grande responded in the comments asking the team not to use her music again. She also criticised the statement featured in the video saying “your truth is false.” Her comment has since disappeared from the post. The post comes months after the US Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that states can prevent transgender women from competing in women’s sports without violating Title IX or the Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.
The ruling came on June 30 as the Trump administration continued its policies targeting transgender people. In May the Supreme Court also allowed the administration to move forward with a policy that would restrict transgender people from serving in the US military.
At the beginning of his second term Trump signed an executive order stating that the US government would recognise only two sexes male and female. The order also said that government documents should reflect a person’s sex at conception which led the State Department to pause passport applications from people seeking to change their gender marker.
Grande has previously called out Trump over music use as more artists speak up
The US Supreme Court later sided with the Trump administration on the issue in November 2025. This is the second time Grande has publicly objected to the Trump administration using her music. In June the White House shared a TikTok video featuring her song “Bye” while promoting its immigration crackdown and showing footage of immigration officers making arrests.
Grande responded by asking the White House not to use her music in connection with what she called “barbaric” and “inhumane” policies. The song was later muted in the video. Grande is among several major musicians who have objected to the Trump administration using their music including Sabrina Carpenter Katy Perry SZA Adele Steven Tyler Neil Young Rihanna Celine Dion ABBA Elton John and Pharrell Williams.
