Chennai: TVK leader Vijay has released the party’s full list of 234 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the party contesting
independently in every constituency. Among the announcements, the decision to field Sabarinathan—the son of his long-time driver and personal assistant Rajendran—from the Virugambakkam constituency has emerged as a major talking point.
Who is Rajendran?
Rajendran has been driving for Vijay since the actor’s very first film, Naalaya Theerpu. For nearly 30 years, he has served as Vijay’s car driver and personal assistant, traveling alongside him like a shadow. In a gesture to honour Rajendran’s loyalty and decades of dedicated service, Vijay has allotted a seat to his son, Sabarinathan.
Sabarinathan has been actively involved in the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam for a considerable period. Last year, he was appointed as the District Secretary for the Virugambakkam constituency.
Emotional moment at TVK candidates announcement
During today’s candidate announcement event, Sabarinathan—who had accompanied his father onto the stage—fell at Vijay’s feet to seek his blessings. Both Sabarinathan and Rajendran became overwhelmed with emotion and shed tears. Deeply moved, Vijay embraced Sabarinathan, wiped away his tears, and offered him comfort. The touching moment has since gone viral across social media platforms.
