New Delhi: Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha has begun its box office journey on a disappointing note, collecting Rs 9 crore net in India on its opening
day. Despite releasing on a massive scale, the spy thriller has recorded the weakest opening among all films in the YRF Spy Universe.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Alpha earned Rs 9 crore net in India on Friday. The film was screened in 7,534 shows across the country and grossed Rs 15.80 crore worldwide on its first day.
The opening places Alpha at the bottom of the YRF Spy Universe’s day-one rankings. The franchise’s previous release, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, had opened with Rs 52 crore net from 19,455 shows, while Pathaan, led by Shah Rukh Khan, continues to hold the record for the biggest opening in the franchise with Rs 57 crore net on its first day.
Although the film has underperformed compared with other YRF spy titles, it has comfortably surpassed the opening-day collection of Alia Bhatt’s previous theatrical release, Jigra.
Released in 2024, Jigra collected Rs 4.55 crore net on its first day from 5,779 shows. With Rs 9 crore on day one, Alpha has nearly doubled that figure, marking a stronger start than Alia’s last big-screen outing.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the first female-led instalment in the YRF Spy Universe and stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor play pivotal characters, while Hrithik Roshan makes a special appearance as Kabir, reprising his role from the War franchise.
The film also marks Sharvari’s second theatrical release within a month. Her earlier release, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, is still running in cinemas, giving the actor two films simultaneously at the box office.
Ahead of its release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared the Hindi version with English subtitles on June 29, 2026. The spy thriller received a UA 16+ certificate and has a final runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds.
