disease prevention. A new laboratory study, however, has placed it in an unexpected spotlight. Researchers have examined chocolate enriched with grape extracts and found that it may reduce the growth of bacteria linked to stomach cancer. The findings remain preliminary and are limited to controlled lab settings, yet they open an interesting scientific pathway.
The study, led by Dr Ileana Gonzalez at the Catholic University in Maule, focuses on Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium known to damage the stomach lining over time. Rising antibiotic resistance has prompted scientists to explore supportive dietary strategies alongside medical treatment. While no food can replace standard therapy, this research suggests that carefully formulated chocolate could, in future, play a small supportive role in stomach health if further trials confirm its benefit.

Animal research has also indicated reduced stomach inflammation, though human data remain limited.
