New Delih: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh western disturbance which is set to impact the western Himalayan region from
Saturday. It is likely to cause heavy rainfall and snowfall, with peak intensity expected on Sunday, February 1.
According to the IMD, the approaching system is likely to cause heavy rain and snow over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. At the same time, light to moderate rainfall is expected over northwest India and adjoining central regions between January 31 and February 2.
In its advisory, the weather agency said dense fog conditions are likely to persist in isolated pockets across northwest India, parts of central India and eastern India until Monday, February 2. Reduced visibility during early morning hours is expected to continue affecting daily life and transport in several regions.
Delhi weather forecast
The national capital is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky over the next few days, with shallow to moderate fog reported at several locations. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 17 degrees C and 19 degrees C, while minimum temperatures could hover between 6 degrees C and 8 degrees C.
On Friday, Delhi is forecast to see cloudy conditions with shallow fog, with temperatures ranging from 7 degrees C to 20 degrees C. The IMD has also predicted a brief spell of very light rain in the city on Saturday, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Cold wave conditions in Himachal
The IMD has warned of cold day to severe cold day conditions in parts of Himachal Pradesh. In the past 24 hours, isolated hailstorm activity was recorded across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra and Delhi.
The weather department added that the fresh western disturbance influencing northwest India will continue to shape weather patterns from January 30 onwards.
Wet spell in UP and Rajasthan
Several areas in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan witnessed wet conditions on Wednesday. Parts of eastern Rajasthan recorded light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Meanwhile, some northern regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, saw a slight rise in minimum temperatures despite the prevailing cold conditions.
