Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali has announced a compensation of Rs 40 lakh to the family of a cine worker who died in a tragic accident on the set of the upcoming
film Love & War at Royal Palms.
A 42-year-old carpenter, Chandradhari Yadav, reportedly lost his life after being electrocuted while working on a set being constructed for a dance sequence featuring Alia Bhatt. The incident has once again raised concerns over safety conditions on film sets.
There is also a possibility of additional financial support through insurance coverage, which is expected to be part of the production’s safety framework.
Film Employees Federation of South India (FWICE) President BN Tiwari stressed the need for mandatory insurance protection for all workers in the industry. He said such safeguards ensure families receive financial relief in case of workplace accidents and urged production houses to strictly implement insurance coverage.
FWICE has also stated that it will take responsibility for the education of the deceased worker’s children. At the same time, the federation has appealed to Bhansali Productions to further support the future needs of the carpenter’s family, as he was reportedly working on the film Love and War.
Tiwari also raised concerns over safety standards on film sets, alleging that basic facilities such as ambulances, medical staff and fire safety measures are often missing. He further pointed to excessive working hours, claiming that workers are frequently overworked without adequate rest. In this case, he stated that the worker had been on duty for nearly 22 hours.
“The system needs strict regulation. We have repeatedly raised these issues with producers and authorities, but very little has changed,” he said.
After the incident, Chandradhari Yadav’s mortal remains were sent to his hometown in Azamgarh, where the last rites were performed. His family is said to be struggling to cope with the loss, with his wife now left to care for their two children.
Meanwhile, production activity on the set has reportedly resumed completion work by remaining crew members. According to Film Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union treasurer Rakesh Maurya, shooting generally resumes only after a traditional puja is performed following such incidents.
