New Delhi: Volkswagen has shared more information about the Tayron SUV, which is set to launch in India soon. The Tayron will be Volkswagen’s new flagship
SUV in the country and will be positioned above the Tiguan R-Line. It also marks the brand’s return to the premium three-row SUV segment after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued in 2021.
In terms of pricing, the Tayron R-Line is expected to cost between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which was sold as a completely imported model, the Tayron will be assembled locally as a CKD, helping keep prices more competitive. The Tayron R-Line is

The India-spec Tayron will be offered in the sporty R-Line trim. In terms of design, it looks more aggressive than the regular Tiguan, thanks to sportier bumpers, R-Line badges and large 19-inch alloy wheels. The Tayron is built on the same MQB EVO platform as the Tiguan R-Line, but is longer. Its wheelbase measures 2,789 mm, which is 109 mm more than the Tiguan, allowing space for a third row of seats. The SUV has also scored a 5-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.

Inside, the Tayron R-Line gets a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is slightly angled towards the driver. Most of the car’s main controls are integrated into this screen. The SUV also comes with a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting and matrix LED headlights.

Like the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron offers leather seats with a massage function for the front passengers. However, instead of seat heating, the Tayron gets seat ventilation, which is more suitable for Indian weather. With the third row folded down, the boot space goes up to 850 litres, making it practical for long trips.

Under the bonnet, the Tayron is expected to use the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.
