Chennai: TVK leader Vijay is set to be sworn in tomorrow, May 7, at 11 AM as the 14th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The grand swearing-in ceremony will
take place at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, with 21 ministers scheduled to take their oaths alongside him.
Preparations underway
Preparations have intensified at the Nehru Indoor Stadium as Vijay is expected to meet the Governor today to stake his claim to form the government. Having secured 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the TVK has emerged as the single largest party. However, as it requires 11 additional seats to form a government, the party is currently holding negotiations with other political parties.
Vijay’s Letter to Governor
TVK leader Vijay has written a letter to the Acting Governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, requesting an appointment today to stake his claim to form the government. In the letter, Vijay reportedly stated that if invited to form the government, he would prove his majority on the floor of the Legislative Assembly within the next two weeks.
Congress leaders to attend ceremony
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Governor’s suggestions
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar stated that TVK leader Vijay could prove his majority by securing external support without necessarily forming a formal coalition. He further mentioned that Vijay has requested a two-week period to demonstrate his majority. The Governor added that while Vijay claimed to possess 35 percent of the vote share, he had specifically inquired about the exact number of legislative members supporting him.
The Governor also confirmed that he has accepted the resignation letter submitted by outgoing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and has requested him to continue in office until a new government is formed.
Cabinet line-up
Vijay held consultations with key party functionaries at his residence in Pattinapakkam regarding the selection of ministers. According to reports, the following are likely to become cabinet ministers: N. Anand, Arunraj, Sengottaiyan, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, Tamilan Parthiban, Saravanan, Mohamed Parvez, Vijay Saravanan, Kallanai, Vijayalakshmi, T.K. Prabhu, Balaji, Sathyabama, Rajmohan, J.C.D. Prabhakaran, V.S. Babu, Sampathkumar, Maria Wilson, Sabarinathan, and Adhav Arjuna.
