New Delhi: India will begin its campaign in the Commonwealth Games 2026 on the opening day of the competition on Thursday, July 23. A strong contingent
of 125 athletes will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games this year. Indian athletes will be in action across eight able-bodied sporting disciplines and five para sporting events at CWG 2026.
Among India’s biggest medal hopes will be javelin star Neeraj Chopra, who will be aiming for the elusive gold medal. However, he is set to face stiff competition from Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who is also the reigning Olympic champion and pipped Chopra to the top spot in the Paris Olympics.
The likes of Murali Sreeshankar and distance runner Gulveer Singh will also be among India’s medal hopes in athletics. Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu will be the favourite for gold in the women’s 48kg weightlifting category, while the likes of Gyaneshwari Yadav and Bindyarani Devi will also be among the medal hopes in the sport.
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain will spearhead India’s boxing contingent at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She will be hoping to clinch a medal at the competition. The likes of Preeti Pawar and world champion Jasmine Lamboria will also be among strong contenders for a medal in boxing for India.
