Washington: Hours after saying that he was stopping the war against Iran further on the request of its allies in the region, US President Donald Trump
on Tuesday set a new tentative schedule for a fresh threat. Speaking to reporters, the President said while he hoped there would not be another war, the US may have to give another major hit to Iran.
“I hope we don’t have to do the war, but we may have to give them another big hit,” Trump said to the news agency Bloomberg. When asked how long he would wait, the President added, “Well, I mean, I’m saying two or three days, maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday; something maybe early next week — a limited period of time.”
Trump’s comments raise chances of active hostilities
Notably, Trump’s latest comments have increased the chances of active hostilities between the US and Iran. Tehran has so far refused to accept Washington’s demands. Among US demands was stopping the remaining elements of its nuclear programme. Iran has, however, maintained that its nuclear programme is not for a bomb, but for energy in the country.
Trump has repeatedly warned Iran since the ceasefire was announced last month. In recent times, tensions have increased over the Strait of Hormuz. While Iran has completely taken hold of the waterway since the war began, the US also announced that it would not allow ships giving tolls to Iran to pass through.
The route is considered extremely crucial as a large number of ships carrying oil and gas pass through here. The control over the waterway impacted the supply of oil and gas. While supply narrowed down in various countries, the prices were seen skyrocketing.
Several proposals in recent times
In recent times, both US and Iran are looking for negotiations to end the war completely. Several proposals have been rejected. Both US and Iran delegation a had also met in Pakistan for talks, which did not yield desired results. Next round of talks yet to take place.
