New Delhi: Heavy rains across Himachal Pradesh have disrupted daily life, forcing over 150 roads to close and cutting off electricity and water supply
in many areas.
The weather department in Shimla issued a yellow alert on Tuesday, warning that heavy rain will continue in parts of the state until August 10.
Roads closed and utilities shut down
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 153 roads were closed to traffic by Tuesday evening. Heavy rain also damaged 191 power transformers and disrupted 58 water supply schemes.
Mandi district saw the highest damage with 51 blocked roads. Sirmaur reported 39 closed roads, Kullu had 36, Shimla had 15, Kangra and Chamba had five each, and Una reported two.
Heavy rainfall recorded across the state
Parts of the state saw heavy to very heavy rainfall over 24 hours starting Monday evening. Nahan received the highest rainfall at 182.4 mm. Dadahu recorded 142 mm, Naina Devi got 140.8 mm, Jatton Barrage had 70.4 mm, Dhaulakuan recorded 68.5 mm, Malroan got 64.2 mm, and Olinda recorded 60.6 mm.
25 nomads rescued from swollen river
A major tragedy was avoided in Sirmaur district when police and Home Guard personnel rescued 25 people from nomadic Gujjar families.
The group had been trapped in the Jalmusha river near Katasan Temple, about 25 kilometers from Nahan, after heavy rain caused sudden flooding. Rescuers tied ropes together and formed a human chain to pull all 25 people to safety. SP Sirmaur NS Negi said.
Temperatures across districts
Kukumseri was the coldest place at night, recording a low of 12.1 degrees Celsius. Hamirpur was the hottest location during the day, reaching a high of 32 degrees Celsius.
