New Delhi: The national capital has been put under a strict security blanket as preparations wrap up for India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15. Security
agencies and Delhi Police have stepped up vigil, placing personnel at key intersections and conducting thorough checks along entry and exit points to ensure safety ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from the historic Red Fort.
Public places, transit hubs, and crowded markets are under constant monitoring due to the expected high footfall. Similar security measures are in place across neighbor districts like Gurugram and Faridabad. Gurugram Police have assigned around 4,500 officers and created 11 checkpoints, stationing Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and fire units across key locations. Faridabad has likewise set up 11 interstate checking posts to inspect incoming vehicles.
To assist guests and dignitaries attending the main event at Red Fort, Delhi Traffic Police partnered with Google Maps and Mappls to digitally map seven designated parking zones. Attendees can scan specific QR codes via Mappls to pinpoint their assigned parking spots effortlessly.
Early Metro operations for visitors
To facilitate smooth travel for the public and special invitees, Delhi Metro services will start early at 4 am on August 15 across all corridors, running at 30-minute intervals until standard schedules take over. DMRC has also supplied 1.30 lakh pre-vended QR tickets directly to the Ministry of Defence for distribution among invited guests.
Commuters heading to the venue can easily access Red Fort by alighting at nearby Metro stations including Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, or Delhi Gate, making the final stretch manageable despite road restrictions.
