New Delhi:Hyundai Motor India has started taking bookings for its upcoming Bayon midsize SUV, which is expected to be launched in India next month. Customers
can reserve the SUV either online or through a Hyundai dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000.
The Bayon will sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s SUV portfolio and is expected to arrive during the upcoming festive season. The Bayon has been spotted testing several times, and Hyundai’s teasers have given some clues about its styling.

Unlike the conventional SUVs with upright silhouettes, the new model has a more crossover-like shape. At the front, the Bayon is likely to have a split-lighting arrangement. H-shaped LED daytime running lights sit high on the nose, while the primary headlamps are located lower down on the bumper. The bumper also comes with a rugged-looking skid plate.
There are sharp creases and sculpted surfaces that make the front end more pronounced. The side profile of the SUV features a rising beltline that makes a noticeable kink around the C-pillar. Conventional pull-type door handles, practical roof rails and heavily sculpted wheel arches make it feel like a crossover-SUV character. The latter resembles what has been seen on the Exter.
At the back, a narrow LED light strip is expected to reflect the lighting design at the front. A prominent roof spoiler will also form part of the design. In terms of dimensions, the Bayon is expected to stretch slightly beyond the four-metre mark.
The cabin of the India-spec Bayon is expected to share many components and design cues with the fourth-generation Hyundai i20 recently shown in Brazil. A couple of connected screens will be the highlight of the dashboard. The centre console will have a separate panel with conventional physical controls for the climate-control system.
Other elements expected to be carried over from the new i20 include Hyundai’s four-dot steering-wheel design, vertically positioned central air vents and similar door-pad styling. As with other Hyundai models, the Bayon is expected to offer a substantial list of convenience, infotainment and safety equipment.
Hyundai Bayon: Expected powertrain
The Bayon is expected to come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. Customers are likely to have the option of a manual transmission or a CVT automatic. The mill is already used in the Creta. However, Hyundai’s specific tuning for the smaller Bayon has yet to be confirmed.
A factory-fitted CNG option is also expected to be offered. The CNG tank is likely to be placed beneath the vehicle. If it is included as expected, the Bayon would become Hyundai’s first model standing above four metres in length to receive a factory CNG powertrain. The Bayon is expected to fall in the ballpark of the Rs 9 lakh-14 lakh price bracket (ex-showroom). Hyundai Bayon will be another one from the brand in the midsize SUV space.
