New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in Paris and praised their contribution to strengthening
India-France relations. Addressing a large gathering, he said Indians from different states have added new colours to the French capital and helped deepen ties between the two countries.
Describing Paris as a city of lights, colours and innovation, PM Modi said the presence of Indians from across the country reflects India’s diversity. He said people from states such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal have made Paris more vibrant.
The prime minister said the Indian community has become an important pillar of the strategic partnership between India and France. Recalling the start of his visit, he said he had attended the Bharat Innovates programme in Nice and was now ending his trip at what felt like a “Bharat Connect” programme.
PM Modi thanked the community for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from 1.4 billion Indians.
12 years of development
Speaking about his tenure, PM Modi said serving as Prime Minister for 12 consecutive years has been one of the greatest privileges of his life. He said his journey from a tea seller to the country’s highest elected office reflects the strength of Indian democracy.
The Prime Minister said India has witnessed major growth over the past decade. According to him, the country’s GDP, number of airports and universities have doubled during this period. He also said highway construction has doubled and exports have risen sharply.
PM Modi added that India has become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer after a massive increase in manufacturing units.
Social change alongside economic growth
The Prime Minister said India’s development story is not limited to economic progress. He stated that 25 crore people have moved out of poverty in the last 12 years and that the benefits of growth are reaching the poorest sections of society.
He said Indians today have bigger aspirations and are determined to take both their lives and the nation to the next level.
‘India is emerging as a trusted partner’
PM Modi said the world is increasingly looking for reliable and long-term partners. He argued that trust has become as important as trade in international relations.
“The world is watching: India isn’t just preparing for the future. India, and I say this with great responsibility, is shaping the future,” he said.
The prime minister further said countries want dependable supply chains and stable partnerships, and India is increasingly being seen as a trusted partner on the global stage.
