New Delhi: Global star Ariana Grande has added another major milestone to her music career as her latest album ‘Petal’ has debuted No 1 on Billboard. She
has secured her seventh No 1 album, which opened with 295,000 equivalent album units in the US during the week ending August 6.
This also marks biggest weekly unit haul of the 2020s for Ariana Grande. ‘Petal’ also registered her strongest week in pure album sales in more than a decade.
Ariana Grande ‘Petal’ debuts No 1 on Billboard
The achievement puts Ariana Grande among the most successful solo female artists in Billboard 200 history. She is now tied for the fifth place for the most No 1 albums, alongside Janet Jackson and Lady Gaga, with seven leaders each.
For now, Taylor Swift tops the list with 15, followed by Barbra Streisand with 11, Madonna with 10 and Beyoncé with eight.
Previously, Grande reached the milestone with Eternal Sunshine, which spent three weeks at No 1 in 2024. Her other chart-topping albums include ‘Positions’ in 2020, ‘Thank U’, ‘Next’ in 2019, ‘Sweetener’ in 2018, ‘My Everything’ in 2014 and ‘Yours Truly’ in 2013. ‘Petal’ also becomes her 10th album to enter the Billboard 200’s top 10.
Petal dominates album sales and streaming
Of the album’s 295,000 equivalent album units, 168,000 came from traditional album sales. The figure represents Grande’s second-biggest sales week of her career and places ‘Petal’ at No 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
Another 126,000 units came from streaming, equivalent to 128,83 million official on-demand streams generated by tracks from the album. ‘Petal’ also opened at No 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. The remaining 1,000 units came through track equivalent albums.
Arina Grande’s biggest album sales week remain the debut of ‘My Everything’, which sold 169,000 copies in 2014.
About ‘Petal’
Ariana Grande announced ‘Petal’ On April 28. The album was preceded by ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’, which became her ninth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 after opening at the top of the chart dated June 13.
The singer is also currently on her The Eternal Sunshine Tour, which began on June 6 and is scheduled to run until September 1.
