New Delhi: The race to secure the cloud has taken another big step. On March 11, 2026, Google confirmed it has completed its acquisition of Wiz, a cybersecurity
startup known for tools that help companies monitor risks across multiple cloud environments.
The deal was first announced in March 2025 and is now officially closed. Wiz will join Google Cloud, though the company says the Wiz brand will remain and its products will continue to support several cloud platforms.
Google closes Wiz deal as cloud security becomes a priority
Cloud computing and artificial intelligence are growing rapidly across businesses and governments. At the same time, cyberattacks targeting cloud systems are increasing.
Google says bringing Wiz into its cloud division will strengthen its ability to protect data and systems across different environments.
In a statement, Sundar Pichai said the need for security has become even more critical, “Keeping people safe online has always been part of Google’s mission. This job is increasingly important today, as more companies and governments move their work to the cloud and broadly use generative AI.”
He further added, “By bringing Wiz and Google Cloud together, we’re making it easier for organisations to innovate with confidence.”
What Wiz brings to Google Cloud
Wiz has built a platform that helps organisations monitor their cloud infrastructure and detect security risks early.
The system connects information across different parts of the technology stack, including:
- Code
- Cloud infrastructure
- Runtime activity
By combining these signals, security teams can identify vulnerabilities and fix problems before systems go live.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the acquisition will help simplify cloud security, “We want to make security a catalyst for innovation, not a barrier.”
He added that the goal is to build a unified platform that protects systems across complex cloud environments.
Multi-cloud support will continue
One concern around big acquisitions in the cloud industry is whether products will stop supporting rival platforms.
Google says that will not happen here.
Wiz tools will continue to work across major cloud services, including:
- Amazon Web Services
- Microsoft Azure
- Oracle Cloud
The company says customers will still be able to use Wiz across different cloud providers.
Wiz founder speaks about the next phase
Wiz leadership says joining Google will help the company scale its security mission faster. Assaf Rappaport said the company will continue focusing on protecting cloud systems, “Joining Google Cloud allows us to scale our mission of protecting customers wherever they operate – at machine speed.” He added, “With Google’s AI leadership and resources, coupled with Wiz’s deep context and knowledge of cloud and code environments, we are in a stronger position to help our partners and customers prevent breaches before they happen.”
The combined platform from Google Cloud and Wiz aims to detect threats earlier and respond to attacks more quickly. The system will also use AI tools to help security teams identify suspicious activity across large cloud environments.
