New Delhi: Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his fast early on Friday, days after starting his unlimited hunger strike as a part of the Cockroach Janta Party
(CJP)’s protest in Jantar Mantar. He had started his fast in protest in support of protest against NEET paper leak on June 28. The CJP and students are in protest demanding a better education system and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
Wangchuk ended his fast after meeting Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh at Gurgaon’s Medanta hospital, where he is currently admitted. Announcing the end of his fast, Wangchuk said that it was done after long negotiations on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country. Notably, the CJP has announced nationwide protests today.

“Just now in the presence of Union Ministers Sh. JP Nadda, Dr. Jitendra Singh and the senior leaders of Apex Body of Leh Ladakh I finally broke my fast after 26 days. Earlier 65, members of parliament from different political parties had visited or signed letters urging me to break the fast. This was done after long negotiations on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country. I will explain the conditions in detail in a separate video very soon. Meanwhile, I urge you all to stay very vigilant about not allowing violence of any kind anywhere,” Wangchuk wrote on X while announcing the end of his fast.
Abhjeet Dipke thanks Wangchuk for extraordinary courage and sacrifice
Thanking him for his extraordinary courage, CJP founder Abhjeet Dipke wrote on X, “We are relieved and grateful that Sonam sir has ended his hunger strike after 26 days. Thank you, sir, for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. By putting your own life on the line, you awakened the conscience of an entire nation. Your life is far too precious to this country. The Cockroach Janta Party’s peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns”.
Notably, since starting his fast, Wangchuk has lost 11 kg. He was shifted from the protest site to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18, citing medical reasons. From there, he was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
