New Delhi: India, on Friday, reported its first case of Ebola virus from a woman who returned to Rajasthan from Uganda, testing positive for the virus.
The woman travelled on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on Friday morning, June 5.
During the airport screening, the woman was examined, and symptoms of Ebola infection were detected. The officials immediately rushed her to the RUHS Hospital, Jaipur.
The woman is currently placed in isolation, and the health department and hospital administration are on high alert. The RUHS Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Anil Gupta, said that the Ebola virus has not been confirmed yet, as the samples have been sent to a lab in Pune for testing.
Test report awaits
The report from Pune is expected to come today or tomorrow evening. The doctors have been monitoring the woman under special protocols, and now the report on the woman will draw a conclusion on Ebola in India; as of now, not a single case of the Ebola virus has been detected yet in India.
A total of over 900 people were infected with the Ebola virus globally, and it has caused 200 deaths in Congo in the last 20 days. A variant of Ebola, named the Bundibugyo variant, is spreading rapidly.
