New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh is witnessing one of the harshest heatwaves of the season with temperatures continuing to rise across several districts. Banda
recorded the highest temperature in the state at 48.2°C, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for severe to extremely severe heatwave conditions.
According to the latest weather bulletin, the red alert will remain in place for the next two days in parts of central and western Uttar Pradesh. An orange alert has also been issued for several nearby districts as the intense heat is expected to continue throughout the week.
The IMD has also warned of warm nights in western Uttar Pradesh over the next two days, making conditions more uncomfortable for residents.

Red alert in major districts
The Meteorological Department has placed Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba and Jhansi under red alert. Officials said these areas are likely to face severe heatwave conditions along with hot winds during the afternoon hours.
Residents have been advised to avoid stepping out unnecessarily during peak daytime hours and stay hydrated. Local administrations in affected districts are also monitoring the situation closely.
Orange alert and heatwave warning
An orange alert has been issued for districts including Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Ballia, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur and Raebareli. Weather officials warned that temperatures in these regions may remain dangerously high over the coming days.
Apart from this, districts such as Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Unnao, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Mathura, Aligarh and Saharanpur are also expected to experience heatwave conditions.
The administration has appealed to people, especially children, elderly citizens and those with health conditions to remain indoors during the afternoon and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
