Kedarnath: The Kedarnath Yatra, one of India’s most revered pilgrimages, has entered its fifth day with thousands of devotees arriving daily to seek blessings
of Lord Shiva. With the growing number of pilgrims, the district administration has strengthened arrangements to ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable journey for all.
Among the most appreciated initiatives is the installation of 12 water ATMs along the Kedarnath route. These machines, set up by the Jal Sansthan, are proving to be a major relief for devotees. In just four seconds, each ATM dispenses one litre of pure filtered water at the nominal cost of Rs 1.
Ensure safe and hygienic drinking water
What makes this initiative even more valuable is the availability of both hot and cold water options, catering to the needs of pilgrims trekking through the cold Himalayan terrain. Compared to the market price of bottled water, which can go up to Rs 20 per litre, these ATMs are not only affordable but also ensure safe and hygienic drinking water.
The water ATMs have been strategically placed at key points along the pilgrimage route, including Kedarnath temple, Aastha Path, Base Camp, Chhani Camp, Badi Lincholi, Chhoti Lincholi, Bhimbali, Meethapani, Jungle Chatti, Gaurikund, and Sonprayag. Assistant Engineer Virendra Bhandari confirmed that all machines are functioning smoothly and are being widely used by pilgrims.
Reduced dependency on costly bottled water
This initiative has been welcomed by devotees, who often face difficulties in accessing clean drinking water during the strenuous trek. The availability of affordable water has reduced their dependency on costly bottled water and provided much-needed relief during the journey.
The administration has also ensured that other facilities, such as rest camps, medical aid, and crowd management systems, are in place. Continuous monitoring and coordination between officials and volunteers are helping maintain order and safety along the route.
