New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that several parts of Central and eastern India may receive heavy rains on Friday, September
11. The states where heavy rains are likely on the day include Odisha, Chhattisgarh and coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has blamed the heavy downpour on a low pressure area, over the Bay of Bengal. They said that this is impacting the weather systems in several states across the region.
The weather office said that on September 10, this weather system was lying over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, which led to cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.4 km above mean sea level, reported India Today.
Rains likely in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh
The IMD said that heavy to very heavy rains are likely in isolated areas of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday, September 11.
Apart from these states, some other states are also likely to receive isolated heavy rains. The states where heavy rains are possible are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Meghalaya and Sikkim in the northeast, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha and West Bengal.
In Odisha, thunderstorms are likely to accompany the rains. The state would also see gusty winds which can go up to 40 to 50 km/ph. Similar conditions are likely in Marathwada, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and Vidarbha.
The wind speed in coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to go up to 50 to 60 km/hr.
In the 24-hour period ending on the morning of September 10, several states recorded wet spells. The IMD said that heavy to very heavy rain was recorded at isolated places in East Uttar Pradesh, while heavy rain occurred in parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar.
Rain will continue in most parts of Eastern India. States like Jharkhand, Sikkim, Odisha and West Bengal will continue to witness wet spells in the coming days, said the weather forecast.
