Washington: US President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that his administration received Iran’s proposal to end the ongoing conflict in West Asia, but
said that those were “not good enough”. However, he called the development a significant step towards the path of peace.
Addressing the media at the White House, the President, while pointing out that Tehran cannot have a nuclear weapon, referred to his decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear pact, which was signed under the Obama administration. The agreement was known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran’s negotiation a significant step: Trump
“I have seen every proposal they have made. It’s significant, but not good enough. Iran is negotiating now, but it’s still a very significant step,” the US President added. He further claimed that had the US “not broken the Barack Obama nuclear agreement, Israel would have been gone, and the entire Middle East would be in big trouble.”
Trump further said that if he had the choice, he would have brought Iran’s oil reserves under US control. “If I had a choice, I would have taken the oil. It is there for the taking,” he added.
Trump on the rescue operation of US fighter pilot
Addressing the press conference later on the rescue operation of the second pilot of the downed F-15E from Iran, he said, “Here to celebrate the largest rescue ever. Largest and most complex rescue operation. Sending 200 men to rescue one. The rescue operation was completed in seven hours.”
“The second rescue operation involved 155 aircraft. Three helicopters were used in rescue operations. Nobody has the equipment that we have. We don’t leave any Americans behind. The US military engaged Iran and rescued the Officer. He evaded arrest for 48 hours.”
Pointing out that there might be a mole in the US administration who might have leaked information on the downed jet, he added, “We did not want Iran to examine our planes. Leak made the operation difficult. Someone leaked information about the downed jet. Mole in the administration will go to jail”.
