New Delhi: A Kuwait-Delhi IndiGo flight was diverted on Friday to Ahmedabad airport after it received a bomb threat. The plane’s crew found a piece of
tissue paper on board with a hijack and bomb threat written on it.
Aircraft had 180 people on board
Following that, the plane was diverted to Ahmedabad, and it landed safely at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The plane had 180 people on board, including crew members. According to the handwritten note, the aircraft had a bomb on board.
The pilot immediately informed air traffic control. The flight was diverted to Ahmedabad airport as a safety measure, and the passengers evacuated. The aircraft was thoroughly searched by the police, the bomb disposal squads, and the dog squads. The luggage of the passengers has also been screened, and nothing suspicious has been found so far.
Repeated bomb threats
An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bagdogra, West Bengal, received a similar security threat around two weeks ago. It landed in Lucknow Airport, where all passengers were evacuated, and security agencies carried out a thorough inspection.
Two IndiGo flights were grounded last month on the same day after they received bomb threats. A Madinah-Hyderabad flight landed at Ahmedabad airport on December 4 after a passenger claimed he was carrying a bomb. Another IndiGo flight on the Sharjah-Hyderabad route landed in Mumbai after receiving a bomb threat via email.
