New Delhi: It’s been four years since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022 in an attempt to wean Ukraine away from the Western influence. The
and US and Russia have continuously attempted several times to reach ceasefire in Ukraine but in vain.
The war continues unabated and the two sides remain locked in a deadly conflict which has so far killed lakhs of civilians and military personnel.
Putin must be stopped by military or economic pressure
As the Kiyv and Moscow remain defiant, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Russian President has already waged World War 3 and must be stopped either by strong military or economic pressure, according to a report in BBC.
Talking to BBC’s Jeremy Bowen, Zelensky said he is against giving any concessions to Moscow for a ceasefire deal as demanded by President Putin.
He said Russia has failed to gain strategic ground despite losing thousands of soldiers in the campaign against Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, he believes that Russian President Putin has already started the World War 3 and the primary question is how much territory Putin wants to seize and what are the ways to stop him.
Putin wants to impose a different way of life
Zelensky also claimed that Putin, through this war, wants to impose a different way of life on the people and change people’s choice of living.
On a question if Russia’s demand for a ceasefire provided Ukraine cedes 20 per cent territory of Donetsk region and some regions in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, is reasonable, Zelensky maintained he sees the issue in a different manner which is not just about land.
According to Zelensky, ceding the territory to Russia would reflect Kyiv’s weakness and signal abandonment of people who have been living there. This withdrawal from territory, Zelensky said, would divide the Ukrainian society and that is how he sees it.
‘Putin will start war again’
When asked why he should not withdraw from the territory asked by Russia to stop the war and satisfy Putin, Zelensky said the move may probably satisfy the Russian President for short term as he also needed a break from the war.
“But as he recovers after a couple of years, we don’t know what would be his next target? But we know it for sure that he will continue it again,” Zelensky told BBC.
