Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand is expected to remain dry across all districts, including the capital, Dehradun. According to the Meteorological Department,
the skies will stay clear until October 20. With no signs of rain, pilgrims are reaching the Char Dham shrines in large numbers.
Bright sunshine during the day and chilly winds in the morning and evening are creating a mix of summer and winter-like conditions. In Dehradun, the temperature is rising to 30–32 degrees Celsius during the day, while it drops to around 17 degrees Celsius at night. This large difference between day and night temperatures is affecting people’s health.

Viral infections, colds, and sore throats are increasing
Doctors say that viral infections, colds, and sore throats are increasing, especially among children, the elderly, and those with weak immunity. The district hospital in Dehradun has reported a rise in patients suffering from seasonal illnesses. Medical experts advise people to stay warm in the morning and evening, drink lukewarm water, and take extra care of their diet.
Char Dham Yatra has gained momentum again
As the weather clears, the Char Dham Yatra has gained momentum again. Devotees are reaching Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri in large numbers. Kedarnath alone is witnessing more than 10,000 visitors daily. So far, over 17 lakh devotees have had darshan at Kedarnath this year. The number had dropped during the rainy season, but the pilgrimage is now in full swing again.

Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board has started preparing for Diwali
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board has started preparing for Diwali. Officials will monitor air quality and noise pollution before and after the festival. Cities like Dehradun, Rishikesh, and now Tehri are included in this year’s survey. Due to the possibility of air pollution from firecrackers, the board has become active in advance.
Although the weather is pleasant and sunny now, the dry air and dust can affect people with breathing problems. Doctors are also advising diabetic and respiratory patients to avoid exposure to sudden weather changes and keep themselves hydrated.
Tourists are enjoying current weather
The current weather is enjoyable for tourists and pilgrims, but it’s important to take precautions to stay healthy. As the Char Dham Yatra continues, and with Diwali approaching, both the health and pollution departments are staying alert. While Uttarakhand’s dry and clear weather is supporting religious tourism and outdoor activities, it is also bringing health challenges that require attention and care.
