New Delhi: Emergency crews rushed to one of the UK’s best known game studios early Monday after reports of an explosion at the Edinburgh office of Rockstar
North. The incident triggered a heavy response from fire services and led to a cordon around the building on Holyrood Road.
For many in the gaming world, waking up to news involving Rockstar North felt unreal. This is the studio behind Grand Theft Auto, usually linked with record breaking launches and secrecy. This time, the attention was on flashing lights, safety checks, and unanswered questions.
Emergency response at Rockstar North office
Emergency services were called to the headquarters of Rockstar North in Edinburgh after reports of an explosion at the building. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the Holyrood Road property at around 05:00 on Monday.
A spokesperson said firefighters had been called out to deal with “structural damage at the building following an incident on Sunday”. According to officials, six fire engines were initially sent to the scene. Crews remained on site for several hours before being stood down at 09:21.
Another update from the scene said multiple appliances were deployed and the street was cordoned off as a safety measure. Around seven Scottish Fire and Rescue Service vehicles were seen in the area shortly after the alarm was raised just after 5am.
What is known so far
Details remain limited at this stage. There is no confirmation of injuries and no official cause has been shared publicly. Rockstar North has been approached for comment, but the company has not issued a statement yet.
Fire crews focused on checking the structure and securing the site. By mid morning, emergency vehicles began leaving the area, and the cordon was gradually reduced.
A key studio in the global games industry
Rockstar North is one of the UK’s largest video game developers and is best known for creating the Grand Theft Auto series. The studio plays a central role in Rockstar’s global development pipeline, which is why the incident has drawn wide attention beyond Scotland.
Authorities are expected to share more information once inspections are complete. Until then, the focus remains on safety and understanding what led to the incident.
