Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have suspended six cops over the recovery of gelatin sticks near the routes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently. The incident
led to concerns on the security lapse of the prime minister.
Cops suspected till completion of the enquiry
The suspension of these policemen was ordered R Srinivas Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru South (Ramanagara). They have been suspended till the enquiry is done into the entire incident. PM Modi visited the city on May 10.
Sharing details, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central Range), Bengaluru, said that two gelatin sticks were found near a footpath in Bengaluru. It was found close to three kilometres away from the main event.
“Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival, during the checking, two gelatin sticks were found on the side of the footpath, nearly 3 kms away from the main venue where PM Modi was scheduled to arrive. Further investigation is underway,” the DIG said as per India Today.
What police said on recovery of materials?
As per officials, the police have started a detailed probe into the matter to find out how the explosive material reached near PM Modi’s route. The probe will also find on possibility of any deliberate attempt to compromise on security arrangements of his route on the day.
The said explosive materials were found near an ashram close to Kagalipura. It was close to around three kilometres from the venue where PM Modi was scheduled to attend a programme that the day. The police recovered gelatin sticks during routine security sanitisation. After the recovery, security agencies cordoned off the area. Soon after it was found, bomb disposal and forensic teams were rushed to the spot. After the recovery , the BJP criticised the Congress government in the state.
