New Delhi: The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door brings in a new era for AMG Performance. Taking cues from the AMG GT XX concept from a few years ago, the updated
four-door coupe comes with an entirely new design language and a major change in the powertrain.
Coming as the most technically out-there four-door sports car to date, yet still somewhere in between the two worlds. The all-electric hypercar, in its most stirring mode, even replicates the sound of a V8. It isn’t just a synthesised hum or some kind of futuristic hum, but rather a well-crafted recreation of that old AMG V8 growl.
It comes with haptic gear-shift interruptions that simulate a brutal twin-clutch transmission. It even gets a tachometer that mimics revs. Coming with an electric setup, the GT 4-Door promises more power, faster acceleration and the same high-performance character AMG fans would expect, but with a slight twist and a hint of nostalgia.

Mercedes-AMG GT differences from the previous gen are subtle
Mercedes has given the exterior a complete redesign, taking a lot from the AMG GT XX concept, particularly the sloping roofline and similar grille design. There are some obvious upgrades, of course. For a start, the production version comes with a proper rear window, which is very important. It also swaps out the concept’s back lightbar for a blacked-out taillight, quite similar to the newer models from Mercedes.
Aerodynamics play a big role in the design of the AMG GT 4-Door’s design, with two active aero elements doing a bulk of the work. It also comes with a speed-activated back spoiler that improves airflow at higher speeds, and comes with a rear diffuser, which extends a couple of inches out from the bumper. Together, they aid the AMG GT 4-Door to achieve quite a low drag coefficient of just 0.22 cD.
We had seen the interiors of the AMG GT 4-Door a while back, but there are still lots to talk about. The big highlight comes in the form of a brand-new infotainment setup that, for now, is exclusive to just the GT 4-Door.
It comes with an angled driver display with air vents tucked behind it, flowing into a passenger screen quite similar to the other modern models from Mercedes. Physical buttons are kept to a minimum, though the drive mode dials on the centre console are good and feel solid for use.
Despite the screen-heavy setup, the cabin feels impressively upscale. The roof also stands out and is first from Mercedes. The Sky Control panoramic glass roof comes embedded with LEDs that display the AMG logo, adding quite stunning effects at night. The glass can also be changed between transparent and frosted with just a touch of a button.
The back seats in the GT 4-Door aren’t exactly spacious, but they can accommodate tall people. Back seats also get USB-C ports and their own HVAC controls, though there is no fold-down centre armrest with cupholders. In place of that, the middle section comes with a pass-through to the trunk without any extra storage space.
Mercedes-AMG GT interior is tech-heavy
Since the AMG GT 4-Door is fully electric, it comes with a frunk measuring at 59.4 litres, which should accommodate the big charging cables or a small bag. The boot itself measures at 507 litres.
The plaque, which in a traditional AMG ICE comes on the engine, the GT 4-Door has its plaque inside the frunk. It includes things like a QR code that links to videos from the engineers, designers, and builders behind the car, each sharing little trivia and stories about its building. Sure, it’s a bit gimmicky, but it’s a fun touch.
Mercedes-AMG GT battery and performance
At its core, the new GT 4-Door gets an all-new battery architecture created in-house by Mercedes. Unlike the usual EV battery packs, this setup makes use of newly engineered slim-format cells with direct cooling for each individual cell. The tighter packaging makes for higher energy density, improved thermal management and stronger sustained performance. This is particularly crucial for high-performance EVs.
Power comes from three axial flux electric motors, with two mounted at the rear axle and one at the front, making a rear-focused all-wheel-drive setup. The technology is heavily inspired by motorsport and is designed to give instantaneous power delivery while maintaining the sharp handling features expected from an AMG.
The numbers are staggering, with the GT55 trim making up to 805hp and an astonishing 1800 Nm of torque, helping it go from 0-100 kph in just 2.4 seconds. The GT63 goes further in terms of numbers, with the output sitting at 1,153hp and 2000 Nm of torque, which lets it do 0-100 kph in just 2.0 seconds. The top speed for both trims is electronically capped at 300 kph.
Range and charging tech are just as impressive. Mercedes claims the GT 4-Door can go up to 700 km on the WLTP cycle, while its ultra-fast 600kW charging capability can let it have a 460 km range in just 10 minutes under ideal conditions. The same battery and charging technology were previously shown with the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept, which in 24 hours completed an endurance run of above 5471 km.
Despite going fully electric, AMG clearly hasn’t forgotten the pantomime. The car comes with an AMG Drive Unit with multiple drive modes, including a Sport+ setting that produces an artificial V8-inspired soundtrack through the cabin speakers. It goes from a deep idle rumble to aggressive acceleration noises. How will die-hard fans of a proper V8 take it is a different question. However, this might be the best step in the world, skipping the rumble of a V8 motor.
