New Delhi:Mahindra has given quite a nice upgrade to the Thar 3-door version with the new one coming with the Thar OG nameplate now. As an SUV, this has been
an absolute blank canvas for upgrades but there have been some that felt far more necessary to make it less agrarian.
With the OG, a lot of the things have been taken care of at the factory itself, and it feels in tune with the time and does move towards being a little more premium from the previous version. With things like electric power steering and new bumpers making the list, we take a look at some of the things that you no longer need to go to the aftermarket for.
5) Aftermarket LED headlights
The Thar OG gets LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and LED fog lamps from the factory. That means you no longer have to scurry through markets for LED projector setups. This was something you didn’t get with the old Thar, and now it is available as standard, which makes it that much better. You also get front parking sensors with higher variants also get other convenience equipment.
4) Aftermarket alloy wheels
With the Thar, buyers have traditionally wanted to replace the stock wheels with larger, more aggressive alloys. However, the OG already gets R18 alloys on the LXT and R19 alloys on the ZXT. That means you don’t really need to upgrade it until you are building a typical off-road setup, replacing those immediately for just cosmetic reasons.
3) Locking differentials
A major upgrade comes with the Thar OG’s 4WD variants getting an Electronic Locking Differential, along with dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. For serious off-roaders, this is a big upgrade. This means the important functional upgrades traditionally sought by off-road enthusiasts are now built into the vehicle.
2) Suspension upgrade for improved drive quality
The Thar OG is equipped with PENTALINK rear suspension with Watts Link and DAVINCI frequency-dependent damping. Mahindra has noted that the setup is intended to improve ride quality, stability and control. It now needs no replacement of the suspension with aftermarket components simply to make the Thar more comfortable. It is good for doing long road trips while delivering comfort to passengers.
1) Aftermarket interior comfort upgrades
Thar OG comes with additional charging points and cabin convenience accessories, including an armrest and better cabin equipment, depending on the trims. In the past, this made the Thar less comfortable, but the new version has improved creature comforts as well.
