New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts across West Bengal as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected
to make landfall near Contai (Kanthi) on Monday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions across the state.
According to the IMD, the weather system was last located approximately 30 km from Sagar Island and 70 km from Digha. As it moves inland through the Contai region, rainfall intensity and wind speeds are expected to increase, with the adverse weather likely to persist for most of the week.
Authorities have issued an orange alert for four districts expected to bear the brunt of the system, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until Friday due to hazardous marine conditions associated with the deep depression.

The IMD has advised residents in affected districts to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, and follow official advisories. Coastal areas are expected to experience rough sea conditions and strong gusty winds until the weather system weakens after moving further inland.
