New Delhi: Samantha Ruth Prabhu is celebrating a major career milestone as her women-led film Maa Inti Bangaaram has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the worldwide
box office in less than a month of its release. Directed by Nandini Reddy, the film hit theatres on June 19 and has emerged as a landmark success for female-led cinema in South India.
Sharing the achievement on social media, Samantha posted a celebratory video featuring filmmaker Raj Nidimoru. In the clip, Raj hands her an iPad and asks if she wants to see something exciting. As soon as Samantha unlocks the screen and notices the worldwide collection, she beams with joy and exclaims, “We did 100 crores,” before breaking into a wide smile.
Reflecting on the film’s journey, Samantha admitted that she was anxious before its release and constantly wondered whether audiences were even aware of the project.
She recalled a conversation in which an exhibitor from a B-centre questioned the commercial prospects of a female-led film, saying audiences were unlikely to turn up for a heroine-driven project unless it featured a major male star.
Samantha said the success of Maa Inti Bangaaram proved that meaningful change comes only when someone is willing to take risks. She expressed hope that the film would encourage exhibitors and audiences to view women-led films differently in the future instead of dismissing them outright.
