New Delhi: Just a while back, Ferrari had admitted that it had made a mistake by bringing the SF90 with capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel
in place of real buttons. The Italian car maker had bundled as much new technology as possible in the new hybrid supercar, but the owners hated it.
The feedback forced Ferrari to return to physical buttons on the Amalfi steering wheel. Now the brand has announced an upgrade for existing models to get the same treatment. Ferrari of Atlanta only last week posted that it can now upgrade the steering wheel in the Purosangue and the 12Cilindri with real buttons.

The dealers have to just replace the section containing all the controls, which they can do without even needing to send the car back to Italy. The airbag cover is unchanged, and the replacement looks identical to the original, except now it comes with physical switches for the menu, phone, and cruise control. All controls are the same, including traction control, lights and wipers as well.
Ferrari isn’t the first to revert to using real buttons, but it is one of the first to offer a retrofit. The Italian carmaker, along with quite a few mainstream and luxury brands, has openly confessed that replacing physical controls with capacitive or touchscreen options was a bit of going back in time. Instead, quite a few carmakers are bringing back the physical controls on future models.
It is one of a kind examples where a carmaker has not just admitted a mistake but offered to fix on older models.
