New Delhi:Mahindra has expanded the XUV 3XO lineup after introducing a factory-fitted CNG option. Priced from Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the XUV 3XO CNG joins
the existing petrol, diesel and electric versions of the compact SUV. The new CNG model comes with four trims, including MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5 and RevX A, with the top variant being priced at Rs 12.27 lakh.
Unlike several CNG-powered vehicles that experience a noticeable reduction in performance when switching fuels, Mahindra claims the XUV 3XO delivers identical power and torque figures in both petrol and CNG modes. The SUV also uses a dual-cylinder CNG arrangement to preserve luggage space, while retaining most of the design and equipment offered on the conventional XUV 3XO.
The entry-level MX Edge is the most affordable CNG variant, while the RevX A sits at the top of the range.
Bookings and customer deliveries for the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG will begin on October 20, 2026.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Powertrain and efficiency
Powering the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine equipped with multi-point fuel injection (MPFI). The engine has been adapted to operate on both petrol and compressed natural gas. Interestingly, Mahindra has managed to retain the same power and torque figures regardless of which fuel is being used.
The engine produces 111hp and 200Nm of torque in both petrol and CNG modes.
As per Mahindra, this has been achieved through changes to the turbocharger calibration and engine control unit (ECU) mapping. These adjustments allow the engine to maintain its performance characteristics even when running on CNG. This is particularly noteworthy because CNG-powered vehicles typically produce less power and torque than their petrol counterparts.
The XUV 3XO CNG is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Mahindra claims a fuel efficiency figure of 24.7km/kg for the CNG version. The SUV also features an automatic fuel-switching system. When the CNG supply runs low, the system can switch to petrol operation without requiring the driver to intervene.
One of the important considerations for CNG vehicle buyers is the amount of luggage space available after installing the gas cylinders. Traditional CNG installations often occupy a considerable portion of the boot, limiting the vehicle’s practicality. Mahindra has addressed this by introducing a dual-cylinder arrangement in the XUV 3XO CNG.
Instead of getting a single large cylinder, the system incorporates two smaller tanks positioned to make better use of the available space. This allows the SUV to retain a boot capacity of 270 litres. To improve the luggage section, Mahindra has relocated the spare wheel underneath the vehicle. The arrangement is intended to make the CNG version more practical for everyday use without requiring owners to sacrifice the entire luggage compartment.
The interior of the XUV 3XO CNG remains largely identical to that of the petrol and diesel versions. Mahindra has not introduced any major changes to the dashboard layout or cabin design or the exterior as well.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Safety features
Mahindra has retained the existing safety equipment for the CNG version of the XUV 3XO. All four trims come equipped with six airbags as standard. Electronic stability control is also included across the lineup alongwith ISOFIX child-seat mounting points.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG enters a competitive segment that already includes several factory-fitted CNG SUVs. Its primary rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG and Tata Nexon CNG. Mahindra will begin accepting bookings for the XUV 3XO CNG on October 20, 2026, with deliveries scheduled to start on the same day.
