New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host world leaders for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
The two-day summit will begin with leaders of BRICS member countries attending closed-door discussions and other events on Saturday. Leaders of partner countries and outreach invitees will join the programme on Sunday.
The Ministry of External Affairs has released the complete schedule for the summit.
Schedule for September 12
BRICS leaders will arrive at the summit venue at 2 pm on Saturday. A closed-door session on multilateralism will begin at 2.35 pm. During the meeting, leaders are expected to discuss global institutions and cooperation among BRICS countries.
The leaders will visit the Bharat Innovates Exhibition at 4.25 pm. The exhibition will showcase India’s innovations and technological capabilities. The official family photograph will take place at 5.05 pm, followed by a joint tree plantation ceremony at 5.10 pm. PM Modi will host a gala dinner for the visiting leaders at 7.30 pm.
Schedule for September 13
Leaders from BRICS partner countries and outreach invitees will arrive at Bharat Mandapam at 9.55 am on Sunday. The participants will pose for a family photograph at 10.35 am. An open session on inclusive global growth will begin at 10.50 am. The session will focus on economic cooperation and ways to ensure that the benefits of global development reach a wider section of people.
Delhi airport prepares
Delhi International Airport Ltd has announced measures to handle the expected increase in international flights and passenger traffic during the summit, PTI reported. The airport operator has increased its handling capacity at Terminal 3. Dedicated immigration counters will be available for BRICS delegates. Authorities have also made arrangements for the landing and parking of additional aircraft.
DIAL said Pier C at Terminal 3 would start handling international flight operations in phases from the night of September 9. It will handle international arrivals initially. Both international arrivals and departures will operate from the pier from the evening of September 10.
DIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker said the airport had taken extensive measures in coordination with security and operational agencies. The preparations aim to manage additional traffic while maintaining safety, security and passenger convenience. “The operationalisation of Pier C further strengthens our international handling capability at Terminal 3 and provides us with additional flexibility during this important global event,” he said.
