Kolkata: Air India has slashed fuel surcharge on international flights following following a decline in global crude oil and aviation turbine fuel prices.
This could reduce the overall airfare for travellers flying to international destinations. Air India has cut fuel surcharge on routes to North America and Australia from $280 to $200. For flights to Europe, the fee has been reduced from $205 to $125. This will directly benefit passengers traveling on these routes.
Will it cut domestic airfare too?
According to reports, the management of some airlines are considering whether the reduction or removal of fuel surcharges can be extended to domestic flights. Further relief may be provided step-by-step on international flights. It’s worth noting that in March, Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air implemented fuel surcharges to address rising fuel costs, so that these increases don’t directly impact base fares.
