Prayagraj: A two-seater, ultra-light trainee aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed into a pond near the KP College ground in Prayagraj on Wednesday,
officials said.
The incident took place in the area under the jurisdiction of the Georgetown police station. A quick emergency response followed soon after the aircraft went down.
According to ANI, Wing Commander Debartho Dhar, PRO Defence, Prayagraj, said that the IAF microlight aircraft conducted an emergency landing at noon on Wednesday. “Around noon today, a microlight aircraft of IAF with two crew, which was on a training mission, conducted an emergency landing. The two crew are safe, and a court of inquiry has been ordered,” Dhar said.
PTI quoted DCP (City) Manish Shandilya saying that both pilots managed to come out safely, and there were no reports of any injury or loss of life in the incident.
Engine failure suspected
According to the police officer, the aircraft’s engine reportedly failed suddenly, causing it to lose control and crash into the pond.
