New Delhi: Since the announcement of its introduction in the professional fitness set-up of the Indian cricket team, the Bronco Test has been in the headlines.
The test, which was originally made for rugby players to raise their aerobic and cardiovascular capacity, has been added to the fitness regime of Indian players, who also regularly undergo the Yo-Yo test.
On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a video of Indian players undergoing the Bronco Test and fitness and strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux giving insights into the new fitness test.
Le Roux, who is in his second stint with the Men in Blue, extensively spoke on the Bronco Test, effectively giving a live demo on camera.

How does the Bronco Test work?
According to Wisden, the Bronco Test is conducted by placing markers at 0m, 20m, 40m, and 60m, and the players are required to run from 0m to 60m, back to 0m, to 40m, back to 0m, to 20m, and finally back to 0m. The total distance covered in one set is 240m. The relentless and draining test is completed after five sets, i.e, 1,200m without a break.
Roux also opened up on his role and said that his goal is to work on a player’s conditioning so that they can showcase their skills well in a super-busy schedule.
The South African sports scientist has worked with Team India in the early 2000s as well.
“Cricket is a game of skill and we complement that skill with what we do, we try and help players to prolong their career. If you are physically prepared, you can play more seasons. If you look after yourself, a lot of things that we implement minimise the risk of an injury,” he said.
After demolishing the UAE by nine wickets in their Asia Cup 2025 opener, Team India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on September 14, Sunday.
