the changes are being rolled out after users repeatedly complained about sudden update interruptions and forced restarts.
The update is aimed at making Windows updates less disruptive. Microsoft says users will be able to delay or manage updates more easily, while still keeping devices secure. The changes mainly focus on reducing surprise restarts and giving clearer options during the update process.
What does this update include?
A big change is that users will now get the option to restart or shut down their PC without immediately installing an update. So if an update is waiting, it does not have to happen at that moment.
Microsoft is also changing how update pauses work. Instead of limited delay options, users can keep extending the pause and install updates later when they want. During the initial setup of a new PC, users will also get the option to skip updates for the moment, rather than being forced to install them right away.
Another change is more information about available updates, so users can better understand what is being installed before making a decision.
Focus on reducing disruptions
The update addresses two long-standing issues users have raised: updates appearing at the wrong time and not having enough control over scheduling them. Microsoft says the goal is to make updates more predictable and less frustrating.
The new changes are now rolling out for Windows users, including Windows 11. It comes at a time when Microsoft is making changes to newer versions of Windows and trying to make updates less annoying for users.
