Chennai: The weather department has forecast a gradual intensification of rainfall across Tamil Nadu, with a significant increase expected in the northern
and delta districts later this week. While Chennai is likely to see partly cloudy skies with light to moderate showers today, the meteorological focus is set to shift, promising more widespread and heavier precipitation starting November 17.
According to the latest bulletin, the current pattern of light to moderate rain is expected to continue across the state until November 16. However, a change is on the horizon, with the weather department predicting the onset of heavier rains from November 17th and 18th.
Immediate Forecast: Southern Districts in Focus
This morning, the possibility of rain has been predicted for eight districts in Tamil Nadu. Specifically, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in the following five southern districts today:

This follows widespread rainfall that was recorded across various places in the southern districts yesterday.
Chennai Weather Today
Residents of the capital city can expect a relatively mild day. The sky is predicted to be partly cloudy, with a likelihood of light to moderate rain in a few areas. The temperature is expected to remain comfortable, with a maximum of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum settling between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rainfall Alert for November 17-18
The weather system is expected to become more active, bringing a substantial increase in rainfall intensity from November 17. A detailed district-wise alert has been issued:

On November 17: Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Kallakurichi districts. The union territory of Puducherry and the Karaikal area are also included in this alert.

On November 18: The heavy rainfall is expected to continue at one or two places in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts, along with the Karaikal area.
The department’s earlier prediction that moderate rain would continue until the 16th, with heavier rains only commencing after, appears to be holding true.
