New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to consider changes in the leadership after two consecutive poor campaigns in theIndian Premier League (IPL).
LSG’s Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, admitted that skipper Rishabh Pant has struggled to handle captaincy pressure.
The Lucknow-based franchise finished in the seventh position in the IPL 2025 and is at the bottom of the table in the ongoing season. Under Pant’s leadership, LSG only managed to win just 10 matches out of 28 across two editions. Pant was brought by LSG for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction, but has faced immense criticism for his disappointing performances.
After a seven-wicket defeat against PBKS, Moody admitted that Pant has found the captaincy challenging, and the results reflect that. LSG have won just 4 four matches out of the 14 in the ongoing season.
“And you do have to wonder whether that is a pressure that is reflected with his performance with the bat. I know that this season has been a difficult season for us, but we will reflect on it, we’ll take time, we’ll reflect on it. We’ll consider all things,” Moody said.
‘Certainly looks like we’re needing to consider a reset’
The wicketkeeper-batter had sensational IPL seasons in 2018 (684 runs) and in 2019 (488 runs), but has struggled to repeat those performances for LSG. In two seasons, he has scored just 581 runs at a strike rate of 135.74.
Moody said that LSG haven’t lived up to the expectations or the standard they expect of themselves, and they’ll be taking some very serious consideration of the leadership of the franchise. His remarks come days after Pant lost India’s Test vice-captaincy to KL Rahul and was also dropped from the ODI squad.
“Like every department, when you do reflect on a season, we will be making some considered decisions, but it certainly looks like that we’re needing to consider a reset. We’re all responsible (for the disappointing season),” Moody said.
After defeating LSG, PBKS now have 15 points and are placed in the fourth position on the points table, but their qualification depends on Sunday’s clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI). If RR win their game, then they will reach 16 points and qualify for the playoffs.
