Kolkata: GST collections surged 14.7% in September, the month preceding the beginning of the festive season when consumption usually peaks in India. Gross
GST collection in September stood at Rs 203,521 crore, which is 14.7% higher compared to that collected in September last year. During the first six months of the current financial year, i.e. from April to September, the total gross GST collection was Rs 12,46,278 crore. During this period, GST collection increased by 11.6% on an annual basis. The total net GST revenue in September was Rs 1,76,520 crore, which is 18.1% more than a year ago. GST refunds in September declined by 3% to Rs 27,001 crore.
Revenue from CGST and SGST
Of the total GST collections in September, CGST accounted for Rs 37,762 crore. SGST collections amounted to Rs 45,363 crore. IGST collections totaled Rs 1,20,396 crore. Gross domestic revenue increased 10.1% to Rs 1,37,996 crore during this period, compared to Rs 1,25,334 crore a year ago. Net domestic revenue also increased 13.5% to touch Rs 1,24,491 crore. Net GST revenue increased 18.1% during September.
Maharashtra tops in GST revenue
Maharashtra had the highest GST collection among states in September. The state recorded a GST collection of ₹29,986 crore, which is 15% increase compared to ₹25,973 crore collected in the same month last year. Karnataka’s GST collection increased by 16% to ₹13,884 crore. Gujarat’s GST collection increased by 17% to ₹12,222 crore. These three states saw significant increases in GST collections during September.
GST hiked by 18% in UP and Telangana
Uttar Pradesh’s GST collection for September 2026 was Rs 8,882 crore, up from Rs 7,516 crore a year earlier, marking an 18% increase. Telangana’s GST collection also increased by 18% to Rs 5,327 crore. Punjab’s GST collection increased by 18% to Rs 2,549 crore. Kerala’s GST collection increased by 11% to Rs 3,328 crore. West Bengal’s GST collection increased by 6% to Rs 5,549 crore.
Fabolous rise for Assam and Manipur
The highest rate of growth in GST revenue was recorded in Manipur. Though the amount was relatively small — Rs 92 crore — the surge was by an incredible 145%. Assam recorded a rise of 88% and the total collection stood at Rs 2,415 crore. A year ago it stood at Rs 1,287 crore. GST collections in Arunachal Pradesh jumped by 46% and that in Nagaland rose 39%.
GST collection went down in these states
Several states also recorded a decline in GST collections in September. Sikkim’s GST collection fell by 51% to Rs 194 crore, which marked the biggest drop among states. Jammu and Kashmir’s collections fell by 29% to Rs 487 crore. Uttarakhand’s GST collections fell by 23% to Rs 1,277 crore, and that of Himachal Pradesh by 21% to touch Rs 640 crore. Tamil Nadu’s GST collections fell by 5% to Rs 10,188 crore, while that of Goa went down by 7%.
